Hilton's tip...

“Get Your Body Position Right First”

The question is:” Do you swim on top of the water, or in the water?”

Nobody swims on top of the water – we all swim in the water, and are supported by it.

The mere fact that the majority of the body is below the water, makes it paramount that our bodies are in alignment and that our streamlining is correct.

Only then can the resistance be minimised.

It is interesting to note that in the fish species, their spine is straight (this assists their streamlining).

The human spine, with its curvatures, needs to best simulate the aquatic spine by adjusting the body position.

Get your body position right first and it will feel as though you are sliding through the water.

Hands- head- hips- heels – line them up!!

  1. Very true, body position is very important. On this note I would just like to say that I have recently joined the adult advanced class and am finding them just fantastic to correct technique and help improve speed through the water, with a great bunch of people... highly recommend these classes for adults wanting to improve and enjoy swimming again !
